How it works

  1. Finish the cut

Export the final video without another layer of burned-in captions.

  2. Review captions here

Add the clean file, transcribe, correct the text and choose a readable style.

  3. Choose the handoff

Use a finished video for appearance or SRT for an editable text track in a supported CapCut version.

Editing first and captioning last avoids regenerating timestamps whenever the cut changes. A clean export also prevents two sets of captions from covering each other.

CapCut’s own help distinguishes platforms: direct subtitle-file import is available on Desktop and Web, while its mobile app does not offer the same direct import workflow.

Caption the final cut
Bring the video after arranging music, B-roll and transitions.
Keep the chosen appearance
A burned-in export preserves the visual captions as part of the video.
Keep words editable elsewhere
Use SRT when a supported destination can import a text track.
No LumaCaption watermark
Free includes 5 Candy Ultra minutes and 20 Candy Lite minutes per month, videos up to 2 minutes, and 1080p export. Styles and exports are unlimited, with no added watermark.

Two handoffs, with different trade-offs

For a finished visual treatment, export the captioned video. Any later crop also crops the captions, so settle the aspect ratio and framing first.

For CapCut Desktop or Web, import the SRT into a matching video project. The words and timing remain useful, but LumaCaption’s fonts and animation do not travel with the file.

Check the platform before you start

CapCut’s current help describes SRT import on Web and SRT or timed TXT on Desktop. Mobile requires a different workflow, such as working from a project prepared on a supported platform. Check the linked guide for its current steps.

Availability, menus and plans can change. Try a short file in the version you use before committing to a long subtitle handoff.

Common questions

Can I import an SRT directly into CapCut mobile?

CapCut’s current help says direct subtitle-file import is not available in its mobile app. Use its documented Desktop or Web workflow, or export a captioned video.

Will the SRT keep the animations?

No. It contains text and timing, not the animated style. Use the rendered video if appearance matters.

Must I switch away from CapCut?

No. A separate caption step is optional. Compare the output on your own clip and keep the simpler workflow when it meets your needs.
